SOLD ON SOLAR:
Affordable Solar

It now makes sense for many homeowners to consider implementing solar to offset a percentage of their annual energy consumption. System prices are continuing to drop and consumers can now tap incentive dollars to help offset as much as 60% of the cost. Currently, there are two main sources of funding:

■  Your local utility company. Consult your utility bill to see who your utility is. This is not your retail provider, but the company who owns the lines and poles that distribute the energy to your home. The average incentive in the state of Texas is around $2.50 per DC Watt. To check program specifics and to see if you qualify, consult our THI Utility Rebate Summary Page

■  Federal Tax Credit. This is a credit in the amount of 30% of the net system cost (total cost less the utility rebate) that can be applied against you tax liability for that tax year, dollar for dollar. For more information on the PV federal tax credit as well as other tax credits for energy efficiency consult WWW.ENERGYSTAR.GOV

Example:
Suppose you receive a quote for a 5kW system at $6.00 per Watt. The total system price would be $30,000(5,000 watts x $6.00). If you receive a $2.50 rebate from your utility and a 30% federal tax credit, the net system cost would be $11,875…a 60% offset of system cost by rebates and tax credits!

5 kW of PV = $30,000
Utility Rebate (2.50 x 5,000) = $12,500
Federal Tax Credit ($31,250 x .30) = $5,625
Net Customer Cost = $11,875
